When purchasing hair extensions, you will see a few terms such as; virgin hair, Remy hair, human hair, non-remy hair and heat resistant hair. It’s important to know what these terms mean because they are entirely different from each other in quality, price and appearance. Before you purchase hair extensions, you need to know all of the hair extensions terms and what type of hair you should avoid.

100% Virgin Hair

100% virgin hair lasts the longer than other extension types but only if it is maintained correctly. The hair needs to be pure, meaning that it can’t go through chemical processing at all; it has not been colour treated, dyed, permed, blow-dried, steamed or bleached or gone through any kind of chemical processing. Virgin hair is more expensive than other extension types, and it derives from one donor, and the cuticles remain intact and go in the same direction. The cuticle is made up of solid and single-like layer overlapping cells. Its responsible for most of the hair fibre strength, and it also helps hold the moisture of the fibre.

Remy Hair

With Remy hair, there is cuticle alignment and chemical processing involved. The cuticles are aligned and intact, but there is a possibility that they may have gone through steam processing. Thus that’s what makes it not 100% virgin hair.

If the cuticle is removed, an artificial cuticle made from silicone has to be made. You will be able to tell the difference because if you have non-remy hair, the silicone will get damaged and eventually wash out causing matting and tangling.

Remy hair is 100% human hair and premium quality; therefore, it should last a long time. If you properly take care of it, it will last and look shiny, vibrant and smooth months after installation. However, you do need to commit to more time to care for them, so ensure that you follow the guidelines that come with your hair extension package. Thus, if you want your premium hair extensions to last for a long time and not to matte or tangle, Jadore Remy human hair extensions are definitely the way to go; they have a natural look and feel and after 100% virgin hair, Remy hair is the best type of hair you can get!

100% Human Hair

100% human hair has not been mixed with heat resistant or synthetic fibres. Even though it is 100% human hair, the hair is actually chemically stripped of its cuticle. When the cuticle has been removed, unfortunately, this leads to dryness, matting, tangling and brittleness.

Human Hair Quality

This is not 100% human hair because this hair has been mixed with premium quality heat resistant fibres or other synthetic fibres. This hair is much cheaper than 100% human hair. You cannot colour or dye this type of hair extensions, but you can curl or straighten them.

Heat Resistant Hair

Heat resistant hair is made from high-quality synthetic fibre and its heat resistant so you can still use curling irons or flat irons on this hair to a certain degree. Heat resistant hair is NOT human hair. It may look like it to a degree, but it’s not at all! This hair will not last a long time, and it’s really not a smart buying choice. It is synthetic hair, and it will never look really look like real human hair.
